Capacity Management

In addition to automatic discovery, mapping and availability management, Utopia also provides capacity management tracking historical trending.

Individuals responsible for storage or server utilization levels can see snapshots of historical trending to extrapolate future disk, memory, CPU, or bandwidth requirements.

In the picture above, the C drive of the server CRPREPROD and the virtual memory of CRPREPROD are displayed over a 30 day (4 week) period. Increases in disk usage shows CRPREPROD is in need of additional disk space.

The Virtual Memory shows to have increased from under 2g to 2.25g and then again to 2.75g. Utilization of virtual memory shows to fluxuate between 500 meg and 1 gig.

Capacity and Performance by Device

Utopia supports an in-depth analysis of all aspects of a system's performance and capacity.

The analysis can provide a window into the correlation between issues with different interfaces such as CPU, memory, disk, and segment utilization.

For instance, if CPU utilization is higher than normal, it may be determined that memory utilization is too high - causing the CPU to swap files to memory. Increasing available memory may allow the CPU to work from memory versus swapping data to disk.
